File and Pay your self assessment tax
You have until 31st January to file your personal tax return and pay your tax.
You can pay at www.gov.uk/pay-self-assessment-tax-bill
Ensure you use your tax reference as the reference.
Transfer spouse tax allowance
If your spouse or partner is not using their entire tax free allowance of £12,570 then you can transfer up to £1,260 of their allowance to you the tax payer, saving up to £252 per year.

You can also backdate your claim to 2018, possibly saving £1,260
New VAT penalties
From 1st January 2023 the way HMRC issue VAT penalties changes
The biggest change is you will be fined for late filing a fixed fee of £200 whether you owe VAT or are due a rebate. This is based on a points system and you are issued one point for each late filed return and the fine first kicks in when you reach 4 points.
There are now additional late payment penalties also. No fine is issued if you are paying within 15 days of the due date, but fined 2% of the liability If the amount is still unpaid after, without an agreed payment plan and after 30 days a further 2% penalty will be added
Auto enrollment pensions
This is the best way to reduce your company tax liability whilst also increasing your pension and obtaining tax relief. If you need help setting up an auto enrollment pension contact the office.
Self Assessment penalties
If any client has still not filed their 2021 personal tax return that should have been filed by 31/1/22 then there will be another £300 penalty or 5% of any tax due (whichever the greatest) on the 1st August 2022
If there is any 2021 tax still outstanding there will also be a 5% penalty on 1st August 2022
For any 2022 tax outstanding, please ensure your second payment on account for 21/22 is made or the balancing payment for 2022 is made (if your 2022 return is already completed) to save interest by the 1st August 2022. This does not have to be paid until 31/1/23 but payment sooner will save HMRC charging you interest
